Tino studying at a tailgate last year

In a bit of non-family news, one of my groomsman (Clayton Tino) successfully defended his doctoral thesis yesterday and we are both extremely proud of him. He is now officially Clayton Tino, Ph.D. He’s been on a rampage with emails so far with his new found title and I wouldn’t be surprised if I have to call him “doctor” for a bit, but he has officially earned that right. He received his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech and has been working for nearly 7 years at it. He already has a full-time gig taking his knowledge of stochastic statistics and applying them to the uncertainty that comes from running a cloud computing infrastructure as a service business. To be honest, the link between aerospace engineering and cloud computing is a little fuzzy to me, but he assures me that they are related. Either way, it is a huge accomplishment for one of our best friends and we could not be happier for him.

Changing gears, in case you didn’t know, it is almost fall. Fall is by far our favorite season (with apologies to baseball season) and it is once again almost upon us. To be honest I feel like we have cheated summer so far this year as there’s only been 2 or 3 days that might have been considered truly hot, but we are ready for fall to get here. The first marker of fall for our household is Labor Day and with it comes the start of college football season. The Jackets open up at home on August 31st, but today there is a scrimmage at Bobby Dodd for season ticket holders that we will be in attendance for. I can’t wait to see how the new QB battle is shaping up and just get a little bit of a football fix. Jes is the best wife ever and indulges me in my never ending quest to soak up as much GT football as possible, but she will probably be found trying to finish up the 5th Game of Thrones book.

For those of you that haven’t seen the most recent blog posts (here and here), we are in the midst of redoing Jes’ bathroom and after the scrimmage we will continue that quest. Unfortunately due to some unforeseen circumstances we were not able to put the grout in over the week, so that is the task for this weekend. The new vanity will have to go in before we can do the baseboards and bead board and since we don’t have one yet, we might be vanity shopping today. I know Jes would like to get her bathroom back, so we are going to do as much as we can, I will do another post once we are done for the weekend.  On the bright side, once we get to the point where we are “rebuilding” everything should go much faster, so keep your fingers crossed.
